Urchin

Hand-built sculpture. Mason Stain wedged with clay to create a natural color effect. No glaze was used throughout its creation.
Inspired by Sea Urchins found scuba diving off the coast of Oahu, Hawaii. I decided to sculpt a pencil sea urchin after being impaled by one underwater. I would like to note it was at my own fault and the Urchin was not harmed. It felt poetic in a way to create this beautiful creature after having some Urchin's spines permanently sowed into my skin. It then occurred to me why most people dive with a wet suit. Hopefully, I have not scared you away from this piece, or scuba diving for that matter!
